Attention spans shortening
Microsoft runs a regular study monitoring human attention span using EEGs (electroencephalograms). In 2000 the average time a person would spend looking at a web page before moving on was 12 seconds. In 2015 it reduced to 8 seconds.

The internet is literally changing the way we think.

Sorry
A study by The Consumer Ombudsman has found that almost half of people surveyed would be content with a genuine apology from companies which fail to deliver.

It really is that simple.

'This isn't a sales call'
Okay, who are you trying to kid? It's being funded somehow.

Sorry, Yell, but you're a sales organisation so it is a sales call.

Mars's strategy
Mars, makers of Uncle Ben's and Dolmio, are advising customers that they should limit consumption of their products to once a week in some cases.

This may help to build trust, and there may be an affect on purchasing if people start buying products weekly. However, it does seem like a high risk strategy.

Usually manufacturers would mitigate risk by making things less harmful.

IT getting in the way
According to Forrester, the research company, 42% of customer service agents are unable to deal with customer issues because of poorly performing IT such as disconnected systems, multiple applications and at a more basic level things simply not working as they should.

Automated Marketing
is an indication of poor quality. True, or not true?

Not necessarily. You can automate a very high quality set of autoresponders or set of social media posts. Just because they're automated doesn't mean they're crap. But some automated things like Twitter Follow DMs are total crap and an insult to the recipient. "Oh thanks for the Follow baby, you rock! If you're bored and got no life check out ALL my pages and here's every f**kng link I've ever generated in my entire life."

Sales
Does the concept of sales translate to online businesses or business selling services? To me it seems 'gimmicky' and desperate.

Christmas already?
It's early November and I'm already seeing the first marketing. Is it really necessary to have one sixth of the year dominated by marketing in the name of a religious festival?
