Google Glass is over
I'm not surprised. There is potential but putting an object between you and the person you're talking to is very distracting.

They won't give up, and how we get our information with change in time, but for now the smartphone is still king.

They have made a few u-turns. Search has been phenomenal for them and given them a lot of money to invest in other things. Glass and Google+ are two examples where they've struggled to make it work, but they are certainly ambitious.

My money is on health and I think they will, literally, change the world.

Country lists on websites
Surely we should have progressed beyond alphabetical country lists when you choose your options. They should start with the country that you're in and then work down by most popular.

Andorra and Afghanistan may have a thriving commercial internet but I get tired of scanning down to find United Kingdom. Occasionally a website has the foresight to put USA and UK at the top and that always gives them kudos.

I'm not being imperialistic here, just practical.

File extensions
What do file extensions (.doc, .docx, .dotx etc) and electrical equipment chargers have in common? There are way, way too many of them. There only needs to be one of each.

Companies do it because they want to control, not because it's what the customer wants or needs.

Back to work attitude
Anyone who isn't looking forward to getting back to work doesn't know where they are going.

Anyone who complains that the holidays are over should look for a new career.

Unsurprisingly, i'm looking forward to 2015 like no other year. Any holiday is like a flight stopover, a momentary pause in the overall journey.

All the best to everyone on Marketing Lens to make 2015 the biggest and baddest 12 months ever!

I've heard that this coming weekend is the most appreciated of the year because people are nostalgic for the Christmas break.

Excellent customer service
The lines of customer service gold standards are being redrawn all the time and ideas that once seemed novel are being taken on by organisations who want to go that step further. Sometimes it's hard to think of new ideas to differentiate the service that you provide.

Well, take a bow Renaissance Hotels because according to a Tweet that I've just seen their guests came out to their cars this morning to find all of the snow and ice cleared off them.

Impressive. I hope they didn't scratch any.

I think great customer service in the service industry, and probably others, is a series of nice touches. Combined they make life better for customers. Many are also simple, leaving competitors to ask; 'Now why didn't I think of that?'

People complainning about Christmas chaos
If you go to West Quay in Southampton on a Saturday in December what the hell do you expect? If you drive on the roads going towards West Quay on a Saturday in December what the hell do you expect?

In fact, any shopping in December is asking for trouble. I still get annoyed that I can't drive from A-B because of what appear to be others' pointless and less important journeys. I expect they're all thinking the same.

Christmas music is so horrible, it's provoking
I've just realised that, thankfully, this year I've not been exposed to too much mind numbingly cheesy Christmas music.

Obviously I've been staying out of the shops & don't listen to Radio Cheddar FM, or watch live TV.

Every year I promise to shop online. This year I've actually done it. What a difference it's made to my mood ten days before Christmas Day.

One day, I'd love to shout at the top of my voice, "I HATE YOUR BLOODY SHOP MUSIC. WE ALL DO. WHY PLAY WHAT PEOPLE HATE YOU IDIOTS!"

What the biggest loss of money to your business?
It hit me this morning about 7.45am that, regardless of what you spend or how you economise, the biggest leakage of cash out of your business is by and away the sales you fail to close.

No doubt, James Coakes will disagree, but what is more costly, especially when you factor in lifetime value?

I think that assumes a level of control. Sometimes you don't gain a new client because the thing doesn't actually happen. You don't lose it to someone else, plans just change.

I'm not a fan of overly positive blue sky thinking. I think that you have to be very specific about the things that happen in your field and then work out how to address them.
