Logo fails
I just shared a story from the Business Standard and the suggested picture that comes with the story is their logo, which is the letters BS on a grey background.

I think that detracts from their credibility a little. I wonder why no-one has told them?

It's a story about spiders' webs which you'll find here. Possibly one of the most fascinating materials on the planet ... no BS.

Personalisation
Will be the big trend of 2014. Marketers will be trying to find ways of getting closer to what potential customers actually want.

Personalisation makes sense of the elusive 'Big Data' concept that marketers are grappling with.

Yes, it's been around for longer probably but I don't think it's trusted and I think it has a lot further to go before it's effective.

Telesales and accents
This is a very controversial subject and it may not go down well with everyone. I was just called by someone with a very strong Mancunian accent who said 'You are eligible for a free upgrade on your mobile, was you aware of that?'

Is it important to train people not to include the typical grammatical foibles associated with their accent when making sales calls?

Virgin America safety video
Have we already raved about this? If not, let's do it now.

That's very good for a couple of reasons:

1. It's the first aircraft safety video that I've paid attention for years.

2. It's a brilliant piece of viral marketing that is completely congruent with the Virgin brand.

Creative Cloud
Today is 20 November, and I've just received a letter (a letter!) dated 23 October from Adobe, saying their systems were compromised between 11-17 September (September!) and my name and credit card data may have been stolen.

They "regret any inconvenience or concern" and advise me to check my bank statements in case of fraud or identity theft.

Do you suppose there might have been a quicker way to alert me of this?

That's ridiculous. Brands need to understand that everything they send out is marketing and this just makes them look incompetent.

Brilliant social media at work?
Spotted this being shared on Twitter and think it's brilliant. Surely a positive thing for the brands involved, too? What do you think?

I just found it a bit odd that everybody got so overexcited about the fact that social media managers are real people behind the brands, and that they had a pretend chat with each other like real people do.

Christmas
I know this is an utterly predictable rant but must they really start flogging Christmas tat on the 1st November every year?

@TheTweetOfGod on Twitter is well worth following for gems like this; 'Shopping at Walmart on Thanksgiving night is the true demeaning of Christmas.'
