This may not have the hoped for result
Greene King, the pub group, currently have 2,915 followers on Twitter and are understandably excited about approaching 3,000. They have Tweeted:

''Exciting' news - 'rapidly' approaching 3000 followers...the 3000th will win a case of beer from us...retweets much appreciated!'

What would be the most likely effect of this strategy?

High postal cost to send a case of beer to FarAwayLand?

I think that it will make some people hold back from following until the number of followers gets close to 3,000, which would have the effect of slowing it down.

That is 1) If anyone reads their social media and 2) If a case of beer is worth having.

Agreed. Why would anyone want to be the 2,916th?

Jackie's also right on another point in my opinion, the offer is pathetic considering the size of the company. They have publicly self-declared themselves Scrooges.
